Making an iTunes Music Video Playlist
Apple's iTunes Player has been around for a long time and has a Windows version. Its a great app for managing your media library. It comes free and like the top players links directly to the store where you can make purchases.
This article is about making playlists from your music video collection for a windows PC, as it is more involved than just adding a song. How to download video or audio files from YouTube will be covered but files from other sources can be used.
1. Cosolidate your music video files
If you already have a collection of music videos it is better to consolidate them into one folder This will help with the initial steps in getting the files listed in the app in order to make specific playlists. It also makes sense to locate the consolidated folder within your your main media storage location. The folder in this case is named Music Videos

2. Dragging Music Videos to iTunes
Get ready by putting iTunes into the the Movies library view

Drag you music video collection to iTunes Movies

Depending upon the size of your collection the library will be automatically be built into a folder called Home Videos. Whilst this is in progress a status window will appear. The same result will happen if you open in the Music view and drag to the Music Videos library. No links will show in that library This is because the files have not been formatted into Music Videos that iTunes will recognise.

3. Changing from Home Video to Music Video

The following wil change all the videos in the Home Video Library to Music Videos

To see your new library go to the Music view and in the Music Videos category you will find the videos you just changed from Home Videos. Now you have your audio and video clips in one view. Note: If you changed all the videos in the Home Video Library this library will disappear.

4. Organising the Music Videos
OK we now have a nice populated Music Video Library what next, create play lists of course. This can be your choice and iTunes even allows mixed media content, Below is an example of how I go about it.
Create a playlist folder called Music Videos, Within this folder create playlist by genre or mixes then drag to the relevant playlist from the Musiv Video Library.

5. Adding New Music Videos
Once the initial library and playlist have been populated new Music Videos will need to be added. The steps shown below are not the only way to do this but give some automation to the process.
-
Download straight to or move the file to the Automatically Add to Itunes folder which is in the ITunes Media folder. Some readers may have more complex folder .structures so it is important to locate the folder with this name at the lowest level.of your folder structure as there may be several occurrences throughout the structure.
-
Itunes will automatically create a Home Videos Library in the Movie view if one does not exist and automatically add the link to your new music video
-
As it is a Home Video you will need to convert to a Music Video as before.
-
Once in the Music Video Library it can now be added to the desired playlist/s
