Windows 10 Storage Sense

Temporary and unwanted files take up space and as part of housekeeping practices these should be reviewed and removed. The settings allows for manual or automatic actions

Accessing the Storage Sense Settings

  • If you have Cortana active: Hey Cortana Open Storage Sense Settings

  • Enter Settings from Start or Ctrl I : System> Storage

Activating Storage Sense

By default Storage Sense is turned off.

Automating Storage Sense

Click on the Change how we free up space automatically to open a settings screen for the required parameters.

Manual freeing up Storage Sense

Click on the Free up space up now option on the Storage screen to open a screen that does an immediate scan for files that can be deleted (this will take a minute of two). 

The results are displayed with tick boxes to select those items that you consider safe to delete.

It is better to use these settings in conjunction with other cleaning options such as the inbuilt app for disk cleanup and third party apps such as CCleaner
